I get the error message '...ax4setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application' when I try to run the installation file for Account Xpress version 4. What gives?
The default installation file (ax4setup.exe) will not run on some older Windows systems (e.g. original release of Windows Vista or Windows 7). In that case, please click here to download an alternate installation file that may work with your version of Windows.
I have been trying Account Xpress for a few weeks now and was wondering what will happen when I purchase a license extension to continue using the program beyond the trial period. Will I have to enter my data all over again?
No, when you purchase and install a license extension for Account Xpress, the program will simply continue to work with the data that you already have, so you don't have to enter it again.
If I purchase a license for Account Xpress, will my license ever expire and will I have to buy a new license again each time a new version of Account Xpress is released?

Account Xpress licenses up to version 3.x do not expire and will continue to work with all minor releases of the application for which they were acquired. For example, if you acquired a license for Account Xpress 3.1, that license will continue to work with Account Xpress 3.2, 3.3, etc. However, it will not work with Account Xpress version 4 and subsequent versions.

Starting with Account Xpress version 4, licenses do expire and license extensions can be purchased in 1-year increments. License extensions can also be earned in monthy increments by promoting Account Xpress to new users who willingly install the software and acquire a free 30-day license to try it.

Upgrading to a new major version is optional.

What is the difference between a minor version and a major version upgrade?

A major version denotes major program enhancements or a complete redesign of the software. A minor version denotes minor enhancements and/or bug fixes.

The first digit of the version number determines whether an upgrade is major or minor. If the first digit is different between two versions of the same application then the upgrade is major. If the first digit is the same for both versions then the upgrade is minor. For example, upgrading from Account Xpress version 2.0d to version 3.1.2 is a major upgrade (from 2.x to 3.x) while upgrading from version 3.1.2 to version 3.2.4 is a minor upgrade (from 3.x to 3.x).

NOTE: We often use the term 'update' when referring to minor upgrades, while the term 'upgrade' itself usually refers to a major upgrade. Starting with Account Xpress version 4, minor and major upgrades are free to holders of a valid (non-expired) license of that or subsequent version. Minor updates are always free to valid license holders.

I tried many times, but Account Xpress keeps refusing my license / registration details, am I doing something wrong?

Please make sure that your name, the name of your company (if one is provided) and your registration key are all entered exactly as provided, no more and no less. The license installation program (Unlock.exe) will refuse any discrepancies, no matter how insignificant they may appear to you. For example, even an additional space between your first and last name will be rejected.

Sometimes, a simple typo may be hard to catch with the eye. Try spelling aloud what you typed while reading it back. You may be surprised of what you can find with this little technique.

Software license are not interchangeable between software applications. For example, Account Xpress licenses will not work with Loan And Mortgage and vice versa.

Up to and including Account Xpress version 3, licenses are also not interchangeable between major versions of the program. For example, Account Xpress version 2 licenses will not work with Account Xpress version 3 and vice versa. However, starting with version 4, software licenses will work with all subsequent versions provided that they are still valid (i.e. not expired). Please make sure that your license is still valid for the application and version for which it was acquired.

Although many may have claimed that their license details for Account Xpress were not working, we have not yet found a single case where such a claim could be validated. In all cases, the license details were accepted by the program once entered properly. Please check your entries carefully.

I just created a new transaction in Account Xpress, but it looks like it disappeared immediately after I clicked the OK button to save it, where did it go?

The transaction date of the transaction you just created is probably outside the currently selected period. Change the period to cover the date of the new transaction, and the transaction should reappear in its respective lists.

NOTE: The default period that is selected each time a file is opened is customizable through the File Properties dialog. In Account Xpress version 4 or newer, see Reference > Period Selection in the help file (select Help > Contents) for more information.

Is it possible to keep the Account Xpress program on two PCs and share data between the two?

In theory it is perfectly feasible, but in practice this could be the perfect recipe for a disaster depending on how this is implemented. Account Xpress was not designed as a multi-user application with many users updating the same data file at the same time.

If the file containing your Account Xpress data is stored PERMANENTLY on a media that is SHAREABLE (e.g. network drive) by both of your computers then, just make sure that you only update your data from one PC at a time and save your work before starting to update the data again from the other PC (i.e. the file should never be opened by more than one application at a time).

If you have two copies of the file (one on each PC) and expect to synchronize them by copying the file back and forth between the two PCs then the chances are that at some point you will update the file on one PC and then forget to copy the file to the other PC. This is when the disaster occurs. For example, let's say that you update the file on computer A and then forget to copy it to computer B. If you then update the file on computer B, you now have two files that can not be synchronized anymore (i.e. if you copy the file from computer B to A then you overwrite the changes made on computer A that are not on computer B and vice-versa.

Do you have a user guide that I can use to better understand all the features, reports and graphs in Account Xpress?

There is no user guide for the current version of Account Xpress. Please review the Getting Started and User Interface sections of the help file to better understand the basic functionality of the program. Select the Contents option of the Help menu to get to these topics.

Account Xpress has a unique user interface not found in traditional personal finance management programs. Although it can be a bit intimidating at first to the novice, this interface is very similar to the Windows Explorer interface and allows you to navigate quickly and easily between different views of the program, making it faster and easier to find the information you need. Do not let Account Xpress intimidate you with its unique user interface and its large number of features. Many features are optional and you only need to understand the basic ones in order to be able to use the program properly to manage your personal finances. If you already know how to use Windows Explorer and have a basic understanding of personal finance management then getting started with Account Xpress should be very simple and straightforward.
